WHY JOIN ANGKLUNG?

In angklung, you can learn new skills like how to play the angklung and the kulintang. You can also learn how to read the music scores and play different chords. You can also learn how to play percussions that you have never seen before. You can also make new friends of different races:) we play traditional songs like Burung Kakak Tua and Bubuy Bulan. Besides that, we also played modern songs like doe-a-deer, you are my sunshine, edelweiss, can’t help falling in love and ode to joy. We are preparing for the SYF next year and this is our second year joining the SYF. We got Silver for the first time that we participate in this competition. So if you want to come and have the experience, come join NOW!

WHERE IS OUR PRACTICES?

Our practices is held at the IT resource room 3 at Level 4 at 2.30-5pm. Our instructor, miss Asma will be here to teach us new songs and how to play the songs using the angklung and the kulintang.

HISTORY OF ANGKLUNG

Angklung is a musical instrument made out of two bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame. The tubes are carved so that they have a resonant pitch when struck. The two tubes are tuned to octaves. The base of the frame is held with one hand while the other hand shakes the instrument rapidly from side to side. This causes a rapidly repeating note to sound. Thus each of three or more angklung performers in an ensemble will play just one note and together complete melodies are produced. Angklung is popular throughout Southeast Asia, but originated from Indonesia.

HOW TO PLAY THE ANGKLUNG?
· Hold the instrument loosely with one hand and grab one edge of the bottom tube of the frame. Shake it rapidly sideways. You make a pitch! That is all.
· In some cases, one person can play more than one instrument by holding one in each hand or by hanging one on one’s forearm while holding another.
· Each angklung plays only one pitch of the scale
